BNurs (Hons), IBCLC and MSc student
I have merged into the breastfeeding world when I started working with premies and their parents in the NICU at St Thomas Hospital, in 2016. Understanding the power of breastmilk to save lives, literally, led me to Indira Lopez-Bassols. Thanks to the Centre for Breastfeeding Education and Research, I became an IBCLC and soon after became part of the feeding team of the NICU. During Covid I visited many families struggling to find help with breastfeeding and this led me to know more about tongue ties. In 2021 I joined a Tongue Tie Practitioner course and learned to assess and divide tongue ties, which then led me to know more about tongue function. In 2023 I enrolled for a Masters in Myofunctional Therapy. I joined these 2 passions of mine, premies and oral feeding, and therefore my research focuses on the PIOMI method. I currently live in Lisbon and work at a level 2 NICU and delivery suite, as a neonatal nurse. Alongside this passion of mine I support many families reaching their breastfeeding goals, during home and clinic visits. I also run a breastfeeding café in the south side of Lisbon, with the aim of providing free access to families that need help and a listening ear.
